Project Overview

Teen Lit Con is a one day event that brings authors and teens together. Hosted at Henry Sibley High School teen readers are invited from around the metro to attend for free. The day will boast at least 10 authors of interest, a variety of breakout sessions, and an exhibit hall for book signings, literary games, book arts and opportunities for readers to connect with one another. This event is also an opportunity for young people to set their own schedules, meet new people and discover new ideas.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Teen Lit Con 2019 will to host at least 1000 teens. Primary goals of the event are selected to introduce attendees to new authors and books, provide opportunities to learn about writing and publishing, to connect teens with book arts and have attendees connect with each other over books. We expect 85% of attendees responding to the evaluation form to respond that they had engaged in these activities. With at least 25% of the attendees responding, each of these goals should receive 75% yes responses confirming participation. Additionally, 90% of respondents are anticipated stating that they would attend a similar program - indicating a favorable response their Teen Lit Con experience.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Of the primary goals for expected outcomes, discovering new authors exceeded expectations at 96% and learning about writing and connecting with other attendees were close at 81% and 84% respectively. 72% of survey respondents reported creating book art. That the Teen Lit Con experience was positive enough to want to repeat it was strongly supported by 99% of the responding attendees. A planning committee member overheard a teen tell her friends, This is the one day a year that I can be myself. Teen Lit Con succeeds at providing a welcoming space for teen book lovers to come together and enjoy books, learn, discover and have fun.
