Project Overview

The Lower St. Croix Valley Oral History Project would document the stories and local history of the places and people of Afton, Lakeland, Lakeland Shores, St. Mary's Point, and Lake St. Croix Beach. In addition, it is possible to use this equipment to document the stories of veterans living in the area and submitting these materials to the Library of Congress's Veterans History Project. These five cities already have an active and engaged veterans group as can be seen in the Lower St. Croix Valley Veterans Memorial Park, a joint city effort to encourage veterans to tell their stories. We have hopes to expand the program throughout the county if this initial series goes well.

Andrew was able to interview 9 individuals and hold one program to help encourage particiaption in the program. Andrew also had plans to submit the oral histories to Story Corps and the Vertern's project but due to COVID-19 plans have been delayed. We are excited to finish the project when it is safe to do so.
