Spark Camp
SPPL is rethinking summer programming this year, piloting a "library camp" model in several branches. SPPL will offer 2-hour, performer-led programs once a week, same day and time, for five consecutive weeks. ArtStart, a Saint Paul-based arts organization, will lead this particular program, engaging participants in hands-on arts activities. Activities may include painting, sculpting, textile arts, puppetry, dance, and more.

Youth will engage in interest-based, hands-on arts learning and build positive relationships with the artist who will return week after week. Youth will expand their creativity and use their imaginations.
Participants enjoyed a variety of activities via the library's new Spark Camp model. They engaged with an actor from Steppingstone Theatre and learned hands-on theatre techniques. A Dodge Nature Center naturalists taught children about exploration and nature in their own backyards through the creation of nature art. In the final camp, participants worked with an artist from ArtStart to create art projects out of reused and recycled materials. Participants not only enjoyed the activities they engaged in through the Spark Camps, but also the opportunity to work with an instructor daily.
