3000
Goals for the event are to engage fairgoers in arts programs and activities; and to represent public libraries at the MN State Fair.
The 2019 Read & Ride Day event engaged over 3000 fairgoers in event activities throughout the 8 -hour day. Stage programming hosted seven shows which highlighted music, dance and performance across several cultures. Children incorporated music with the Read & Walk book, ONE DAY IN THE EUCALYPTUS EUCALYPTUS TREE, by using rhythm sticks to tap out the beat of the story as they read it aloud. Author Daniel Bernstrom was on hand to talk with children as well. Over 400 fairgoers connected with the reader favorite Harry Potter series in a new way by competing in the Helga Hufflepuff Tournament. Button making, glitter blending, puzzle design and other hands-on art opportunities were popular throughout the day. As the State Fair is part of Minnesota history and culture the event highlighted the State Fair through games such as Get the Price Right involving State Fair foods. The event successfully merged library programming with the arts as well as the culture, history and environment of MN and the MN State Fair.
