Creative Insights: Tell Your Story
A 5-week series of classes to teach creative writing skills to adults with developmental disabilities.

Participants will express themselves through a variety of creative writing exercises and techniques. The Savage community will be made aware of their work by reading a compilation of it in a published book that will be housed at the library, and through a public authors' reading and book release.
Attendees came to the library for 5 writing classes, each class building on the previous week's class. Our evaluation forms were simple (a statement with Yes or No to be circled) to meet the needs of the participants. All participants agreed that they shared their own stories, ideas and experiences in class, that they tried writing in new ways (drama, poetry, non-fiction), and that they looked forward to coming to the classes.
Cow Tipping Press published the book of their writing, and each student received a copy. The library also received copies, and they were added to the collection. Originally, we had scheduled a community celebration/author launch of the book, but COVID-19 did not allow that to happen. Instead, two of the students were featured on a live radio show with a representative from Cow Tipping Press in May. The library promoted this program through the electronic newsletter and social media outlets.
