Project Overview

For Design a Skateboard workshops: two libraries will host skateboard art workshops for teens. For Sing, Play, Learn: Hands-on musical play activities led by early childhood music specialists will let families experience music's impact on learning and reading readiness. Together they will sing, rhyme, read, move and create! For In Step: In Step is a dance and culture program for kids and youth. For The Science of Art: Hands-on art classes for kids exploring how nature influences art and how materials found in nature can be used in art.

For Design a Skateboard workshops: patrons will make art, patrons will plan to use the library to download or check out books, music or movies about topics covered in the workshop. For Sing, Play, Learn: Patrons will learn about preparing their preschoolers for school. Patrons and their children will sing and dance together. For In Step: Patrons will try dancing or learn new dances, patrons will learn about cultures different from their own, patrons will learn something new about dance or dance history or culture. For The Science of Art: Patrons will have hands-on experiences creating art, patrons will learn more about art techniques.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Sing, Play Learn: 100% of caregivers shared songs with their child. 75% of patrons rated the program as "excellent" and 45% as "good."

In Step: 100% of patrons tried a new way of dancing. 88% of patrons liked the program. Patron comments include: "I [love] dancing. I also did Indian classical dance and performed" and "This was awesome especially the passing the clap."

Science of Art: 89% of patrons learned a new way to make art. 92% of patrons liked the program. Patron comments include: "It was an awesome program and I love my new leaf press" and "So much fun!"
