Juneteenth Celebration
A 15 minute video will commemorate Juneteenth 2020 in partnership with the St. Paul Public Library and Ujamaa Place, inviting the community to a virtual celebration of heritage and culture, featuring Mayor Melvin Carter III, African American community leaders, local artists and Arts Us youth cultural drummers. On Friday, June 19, 2020 at 9:00am, the virtual commemoration will premier with a 15-minute broadcast across social media from the City of St. Paul's YouTube page.

Participants will
?Learn about Juneteenth and Saint Paul's African American history through the stories of local residents and elders
?Celebrate African American heritage and culture while truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today.
?Identify and recognize the many contributions that African Americans and African American culture make in improving society
?Experience cultural drumming from Arts Us youth
? Participants learned about the history of Juneteenth and what it means to Black leaders in the Saint Paul Community.
? Participants experienced culturally-rooted music by ArtsUS youth and The War And Treaty.
