Read & Ride Day 2018
This event provides an opportunity to connect with library users and nonusers through a major community event the MN State Fair. It is free family fun, designed to highlight the best of library Legacy programming for all ages.
2000
Goals for the event are: to engage fairgoers in arts programs and activities, and to represent public libraries at the MN State Fair.
The 2018 Read & Ride Day event could not have benefited more from the absolutely beautiful day that brought so many to the Fair and to Dan Patch Park. Ambassadors were so busy that many of the counts we do to track attendance were abandoned. Because stage attendance had been down the two previous years we had a totally fresh and new lineup that easily doubled or better the 610 estimate from 2017. The Read & Walk book premiered four months before its release. MN author, David LaRochelle, was on hand to play games and help the readers as they walked through the pages of Isle of You. Fairgoers made their own State Fair buttons, played games, received reading recommendations, shared stories with the Storymobile, played in glitter, and enjoyed the State Fair themed photo op. The event set out to provide free family fun and did just that.
