Community Conversations: Parent Engagement
Somali author Ruqia Abdi will read from her new book, "Better Parenting: A Guide for Somali Parents in the Diaspora." The book raises issues confronted by Somali parents raising children in the U.S. including: the education system, the lack of trust in social services, and the lack of a support system. The divide between the culture Somali parents grew up with and the culture in which they are raising their children can seem too big to cross. Abdi will lead a discussion about topics addressed in the book and offer insight based on her many years of expertise.
