Programs that elevate Black history and culture, and encourage people to think broadly and critically about Black heritage history in all its richness and complexity.

Black cultural heritage and history are reflected in this program. Patrons will seek out library materials by African American authors/creators.
Participants' understanding of the significance of Black history in the United States increased through: 87% examining music as an outlet for racial trauma and form of cultural resistance; 91% learning about the exploitation of Black music and musicians; 65% examining the impact of slavery and oppression on the Black psyche; 61% learning about Jim Crow laws on lives and careers of Black artists; 74% learning about the contributions of Holiday and her collaborators. 65% of participatns will seek out library materials by African American authors/creators. Comments about what participants liked most include: "the mix of music performance and history. Venue in the community" and "the music of course and all the background or the history of the songs."
