Off Site Summer Reading Program 2019
Provide reading records, incentives, book collections, and arts & Minnesota history programming to Readmobile visitors and selected school-age childcare, extended year/summer school, and summer food programs for an on-site library, arts, and literacy connection. A Spanish-speaking outreach specialist will connect with Spanish-speaking families and kids at selected sites.

Participants will spend more time reading over the summer than they would have without the program. Site leaders will have literary resources, arts & Minnesota history programming, and incentives to share with participants in their programs.
Offsite Summer Reading Program (OSSRP) reached over 3500 children with reading programs, books to borrow, Spanish language outreach, history & arts programs, and/or reading incentives at 21 partner sites during the summer of 2019. Children at 12 summer school and school child care sites engaged with stories and reading activities presented by a librarian or presenter during 21 visits. 80% of evaluations returned from these partner sites reported that their students read more over the summer than they would have without the program. In addition to our more typical child care and summer school sites, we were able to also serve 30 developmentally disabled teens at a special education summer program and 140 toddlers at a city-sponsored park program.
Of the 21 OSSRP sites, 7 sites were in or near high-density housing and were visited regularly by Scott County's Readmobile. An additional Readmobile site was at a local day camp program, Camp Esperanza, which primarily serves children from Spanish-speaking families. Readmobile visits that featured a Legacy-funded Spanish-language, history, or arts presenter reached 878 kids and families, and visits featured books to borrow, read-alouds, four Minnesota history programs led by the Scott County Historical Society, creative activities including three artist-led programs, and reading & learning incentives. Three of the Readmobile sites primarily drew Spanish-speaking families and children, so Spanish-speaking outreach aides and specialists read books in Spanish and led culturally relevant activities. 94% of Readmobile visitors surveyed reported that they read more this summer because of the Readmobile.
