Project Overview

Minnesotans have long been known for their humble nature and work ethic and have taken great pride in their athletes. "Minnesota Gold" features compelling stories told by fifty-seven Minnesota athletes participating in the Olympics, World Championships and World Cups from 1948 to 2014. Author Patrick Mader presents an engaging and unique program as he shares the memorable conversations he had with these men and women who honored their sport, their state and their country on the world stage over the last seven decades.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants will learn more about Minnesota athletes who have completed in the Olympics as well as more about the history of the games. Anecdotal and participant evaluations will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

People loved his stories, especially about meeting the athletes and holding their medals. The teens were fascinated and asked great questions. "I usually fall asleep all the time anywhere - at the nursing home they tell me to wake up and move, but I didn't fall asleep today. He was funny and interesting." "That was much better than I expected. I don't even like the Olympics but now I want to know more." "It's so nice to see women highlighted in sports. So often women are forgotten and we have a strong history. Thanks for pointing that out and respecting us." "I will be in a book like that someday. Seeing him made me want to try harder to be the best I can be."
