Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants will learn about the history of commercial and recreational fishing on the Minnesota River. Ron will discuss the capture of invasive Asian carp and discuss its effects on the Minnesota River. This discussion will raise awareness of our ecosystems and the effect man can have on them when on-native species are introduced into an area.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Responses overwhelmingly indicated that Ron's program was very Informative and highly entertaining. Many of the participants commented that they never realized the variety of aquatic life that is found in the Minnesota river. They were also surprised to learn that some native populations of fish and other species are making a return to the river, showing that efforts to limit pollutants in the river are working. They were surprised to learn about the commercial fishing industry on the Minnesota River and how important it is to the economy of the region. The program helped attendees to see that the Ivanhoe library is a place that works to promote the arts, history and culture of our state and would like to see more Legacy programs brought to the community. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses were collected.

Source of Additional Funds

The Tyler Public Library helped to promote the program and held one of their own.
