Project Overview
Camp Read-a-Lot is a literary event for librarians and educators to come together in celebration of children's literature. Each participant completes reading list and submits book reviews on each title. Throughout the event there are small groups that meet to discuss the various books. Each day features a keynote speaker. This year author Alison McGhee will speak on Day #1 focusing on picture books for children and author Kim Faurot focused on early literacy on Day #2. In addition, early literacy experts Jodi Wambeke and Ann Trochlil will be presenters on Day #2.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Educators and librarians will come together to discuss a variety of children's literature. Completing the required reading lists will help them to expand their reading horizons and perhaps introduce them to something new that they can use in their classroom or recommend to their library patrons. Networking is a valuable tool and there will be ample time for that.
Written evaluations/surveys will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

For the most part, participants seemed to enjoy the conference and they all walked away with armloads of books (the presenters provided books to be purchased and there were plenty of freebies as well). All of the respondents said that they would attend Camp Read-a-Lot again.

Source of Additional Funds

Plum Creek partnered with Pioneerland Library System and SAMMIE to organize and pay for this program. Portions of the program that were to be paid for with the ACHF were split evenly between the two systems while SAMMIE provided financing of $780.00.
