Buster the Magic Clown - Duane Blake
The goal of this event is to celebrate reading, to show the library as welcoming, as a place to learn, grow and have fun. Mr. Blake has attended professional workshops on clown magic and his skills will be an inspiration to the kids. Anecdotal responses will be collected.
The audience was huge, larger than anticipated. Before the show, Buster greeted kids in the children's area, handing out stickers. Some kids have an aversion to clowns and one result from this program was helping the kids get over their concerns. Very few left the room once the program began. the audience was thoroughly engaged and there was a lot of laughter and cheers. Buster incorporated reading in his magic tricks and encouraged the kids to look for their favorite books at the library. Parents and children alike commented on the amazing tricks and left the library feeling good, just what we hoped for in planning this program.
The Friends of the Library hosted the event.
The Marshall Independent newspaper gave a special rate for the ad. ($150.00) The radio promoted the event through the bi-weekly radio program.
