Project Overview

Steve Glischinski is a photographer who began taking pictures of trains and railroads at the age of thirteen. Since then many of his photographs have been published in railroad magazines and books. He will present a program based on his book during which he will discuss railroading and how it shaped Minnesota's history. He will focus on the photographs used in the book and share their historical significance. Steve will also discuss the publishing of his book and hoe he selected images and stories for the narrative.

Greater knowledge of the impact that railroads have in the history of our state.

Greater knowledge of how to prepare and publish a book.

An appreciation of what a public library can offer a community.

Anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The participants gained a better understanding of how railroads shaped the local area. Some made comments such as, "So that's why they stopped..." and "I didn't know that..." We had people visit the library who aren't regular patrons and one person filled out a registration form for a library card.

Source of Additional Funds

The Tyler and Ivanhoe public libraries will also be having this same program. All three libraries will provide space and advertising for the programs.
