Project Overview

Carrie Hartman teaches the students about what it takes to write and illustrate a book and how the process works of putting the whole book together. She also teaches the students to draw a character out of one of her books using several different elements of drawing and the students will create their own drawing.

Students will learn about the process of writing and illustrating children's books from a professional author/illustrator from Minnesota. Anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The students were successful in learning to draw a book character in a simple way using the elements of drawing. The students were engaging in conversations with the author/illustrator about drawing methods and how stories you know can turn into books.

Source of Additional Funds

The Fulda elementary school provided the classroom space and all the equipment needed for the presentations, along with school staff to help with setup and cleanup.
The Southwest/West Central Service Cooperative in Marshall made arrangements with the author.
