Project Overview
Ojibwe author Brenda J. Child will discuss her book, Holding Our World Together, Viking Penguin 2012. “It explores the remarkable role of women in sustaining Native American communities through the hardest years of the last two centuries. Child, a leading scholar, brings readers to a fascinating interpretation of Native American women and their significant roles in commerce, agriculture and spirituality. Child features countless stories of strong-willed and inspiring Ojibwe women and her work delivers a powerful corrective to the commonly held notion of Indian male dominance.” Post presentation reception honoring significant Indian women funded by MC Friends.

“Wonderful presentation on a topic that is so important and so lacking in availability. Thank you.”
“As someone coming from Indonesia, which was also colonized for a long time, it's really interesting to see the parallels of how women were central to holding the community and people values together under duress. And also how these efforts are sometimes overlooked.”
“Very empowering for an Ojibwe woman to hear the stories of these strong women.”
