ArtStart: Artist's Studio -- Vincent Van Gogh
School-aged kids will get hands-on art experiences under the guidance of a professional educator.
Comments from hosting librarians: Laurie (the main presenter) had pretty low-energy and didn't seem very familiar with the content of the class. She knew what she was talking about when it came to the actual use of the pastels and blending and such, but hardly spent any time talking about Van Gogh's life. What she did say, she read straight off a paper. Both she and her helper were great with the kids one-on-one. Several kids finished in just one hour. All but 3 kids had finished by 2:20pm. The kids all had a great time working away, but I don't know that they acquired any skills or knowledge, which had been one of my expectations based on the description of the class. / Beautiful drawings using van Gogh's techniques. I love watching the wheels go round as the kids create. / Children used craypas on paper to learn the techniques of color blending and creating visual interest with foreground, middle distance and background images, some kids were bored, some finished rather quickly.
