Heading Home Anoka--Art in a Box
People developing the artwork will have access to art and writing materials to express their feelings about homelessness in creative ways. People viewing the artwork and prose displayed will gain a greater understanding of issues affecting the homeless in Anoka County.
In partnership with "Anoka County Heading Home”, we provided eight "Art in a Box" kits to local homelessness assistance agencies. The art and writing supplies included in the kits allowed more than 100 artists experiencing homelessness to explore and express their feelings about homelessness in a new way. The artwork created this fall was displayed in nine Anoka County Library locations and the Anoka County Government Center during the month of November, National Homelessness Education Month. More than 2,000 visitors to Anoka County libraries and government center viewed the artwork, educating those who might be unfamiliar with homelessness and speaking to them on a deeper and more human level than would have been possible with statistics and reports alone.
