Starwatch Party - Mike Lynch
Mike Lynch provides an introduction to the world of stargazing. The astronomy and stargazing program includes a half hour indoor orientation with maps and constellation diagrams, then continues outside for a guided tour, including the lore of the Big Bear, Little Bear, Cassiopeia and many more constellations. Mike provides 3 giant 20? reflector telescopes and gives individuals the chance to view ?close up? star clusters, galaxies and other wonders of the night sky.

Participants will spend time having an indoor orientation of the night sky with maps and constellation. They will then go outside and take in the celestial show in the sky. They will learn about the constellation lore of Big Bear, Little Bear, Cassiopeia, and many more. Learning about the stories passed down through history will be of interest to many participants. They will also develop skills to help them identify constellations and hopefully can share their new knowledge with others. The historical portion of the program will include stories about the different constellations and their origins. Anecdotal responses will be collected.
Participants learned to identify 14 constellations in the night sky. They also learned to identify the space station and learned that the big dipper is just part of a constellation. Participants learned about quality telescopes and the names and history of many of the constellations.
Friends of the Library provided refreshments - $50.00
Radio station KLGR invited the director to be on the morning show to share information about the program.
