Kids will be able to make a connection between the games and sports they're already playing in the local community and activities from other cultures. Global Games will provide a strong start to the summer reading program and encourage kids and parents to continue attending library events and participating in the summer reading program. It will foster community attitudes that the library is a place to learn new skills, engage with other community members and to have fun. Anecdotal responses will be collected.
Mr. Fun opened the event by asking kids to think of games and sports that they enjoy playing and then encouraged them to connect those to the activities from other cultures and eras that he was presenting. The end of the program when everyone would have had the chance to test their skills was interrupted because of a tornado in the area. Those who stayed until we were able to resume the program got to try all of the different toys and games that Mr. Fun demonstrated. The kids said that they had fun and liked getting to try all of the games. The juggling sticks were a favorite.
