Project Overview

Art students will gain invaluable knowledge on the creation of mural art from an experienced, professional artist. The artwork will provide an inviting setting for young patrons and hopefully encourage them to linger longer in the library surrounded by the beauty and interest that the murals will bring. The murals are a permanent piece to be enjoyed for many years to come. They are also a reminder of the creative process for those who participated in the idea submissions or witnessed the mural creation.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The artwork will provide an inviting setting for young patrons and encourage them to linger longer in the library. It will draw patrons into the children's section and other areas of the library and will bring much needed color to the library. The murals are a permanent piece of art to be enjoyed for many years to come. They are also a reminder of the creative process for those who participated in the idea submissions or witnessed the mural creation. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

There were over 130 children ages 4-18 visit the artist while the mural was being painted. This included two daycares and four high school art classes. Every single time a patron comes in who has not been here since the mural project ended, we're delighted to hear "Oh my goodness this is stunning!" Our patrons are proud that we both supported a Minnesota artist and received a gorgeous piece of art that will be on our walls for generations to come. Our new library space is mainly decorated in grays so the colorful fun animals and nature scenes relieve some of the severity of the space.
