Project Overview
Joel Karsten will be teaching participants how to grow a small garden using a straw bale instead of a patch of dirt. He will go over the benefits to having such a small garden in which to grow food for the family or to experiment with something new, especially if the participant does not have a lot of room to grow plants.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants will learn they can garden almost anywhere even on a patio, and we are hoping that not only will more gardens spring up in Pipestone, but more people will become interested in using the library's gardening resources to improve on what they learn from Joel. Anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

We have several holds on our copy of Joel's book, "Straw Bale Gardening., and several people have come in to look up straw bale purchasing. One of our patrons has already set up ten bales in his backyard and is very excited. We plan on setting up a bale in front of the library for an experiment.
Judging from the evaluations, people really enjoyed themselves.
Participant evaluation/surveys and anecdotal responses were collected.
