Project Overview

Steve Glischinski is a photographer who began taking pictures of trains and railroads at the age of thirteen. Since then many of his photographs have been published in railroad magazines and books. He will present a program based on his book, Minnesota Railroads: A Pictorial History, during which time he will discuss railroading and how it shaped Minnesota history. He will focus on the photographs used in the book and share with us their historical significance. Steve will also discuss the publishing of his book and how he selected images and stories for his narrative.

Measurable Outcome(s)

I could tell people enjoyed Steve's program by the way they sat and listened. Steve invited guests to ask questions during his presentation and afterwards many of the guests shared their memories of riding on the trains when they were younger. Several audience members have family members who work for the railroads and they too shared their experience with railroads.

Source of Additional Funds

The Lake Benton and Tyler public libraries also held programs in conjunction to this one. Ivanhoe Community Center provided space for the presentation at no charge.
