Project Overview
Winter Reading Program 2014 is a system-wide adult winter reading program that takes place at member libraries. The Winter Reading Program provides a venue for adults to read and record the number of books they read during the timeframe allowed. In exchange for reading, they were offered small complementary gifts. Plum Creek Libraries compete for the "Champion Reader" trophy.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

To promote Minnesota authors and encourage non-readers to participate in winter reading program activities.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The book club kits were assembled between Feb and May of 2014. Prior to June 30th five of kits had been checked out to book clubs and two others are currently on hold. Use of the book club kits promotes Minnesota authors and introduces readers to a variety of author writing styles. Book club participants reported that the book discussion guides and author information were extremely useful and helped broaden the reading experience. Since the program is just beginning, further evaluation of use will take place in the months ahead.

Source of Additional Funds

Plum Creek Library System (PCLS) and Pioneerland Library System (PLS) libraries hosted the passive programs and provided local incentives. PCLS and PLS staff developed, created and coordinated the distribution of posters, bookmarks, reading logs, and other PR materials. Contributed in-kind dollars of $250.00 in reproduction costs.
