Project Overview

The program stresses the fun and hard work that goes into learning a skill such as the yo-yo. Dave Schulte is a professional yo-yo performer and highly acclaimed champion who has circled the globe since 1998 storming audiences everywhere with his freakish tornado of whirling tricks and tips, all designed to entertain, educate and illuminate the beauty of the growing sport of professional yo-yo. Delivering intensely fun freestyle performances followed by friendly hands-on instruction, Dave teaches his "students" hand to eye coordination, goal setting and achievement, performance techniques, and the fundamentals of physics.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Reading for life and entertainment are stressed, and having fun at the library is woven into this program. Kids will learn about the art of yo-yos and learn how to do their own tricks with the yo-yos that Dave provides. Kids will learn how to hold the yo-yo and will learn some beginner tricks during the hands on section of the program. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Dave did a terrific job at promoting yo-yo as an art. He started the program with a freestyle demonstration and the audience loved it. Dave was very engaging to the audience and had their rapt attention at all times. He also promoted the importance of reading and learning new things. The kids were taught about the science of yoyo's and also the techniques on how to properly hold and throw a yo-yo. Not everyone got to try the yo-yo because of the big group but Dave asked for different volunteers to help throughout his program. Both kids and adults enjoyed the program and the library collected many positive comments.
