Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants will learn the history of Civil War era songs and their composers. They will have an opportunity to play some of the instruments of that era and sing songs with other participants.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Participants:
1) learned the historical context of songs, and how the Civil War and slavery influenced the music of that era,
2) learned the history of the banjo and how the early settlers and/or black slaves were very creative in the variety of banjos they constructed,
3) heard a wide variety of songs from that era, including nonsense songs, minstrel shows, war songs.
4) enjoyed the musicianship of the performer and an evening of music with other members of the community, especially the sing-along of Stephen Foster songs. Participant response: This was a well done presentation, well-researched, good history and spirit. Excellent!!!
