Project Overview
Two buses of people travelled to Fort Snelling--one from Big Stone County and one from Swift County. We started with a movie talking about the fort and Civil War and Dakota Indian War. Then participants toured the Fort on their own, stopping to watch various demonstrations and performances.

Those in attendance will have a better understanding of the historic value and the history behind Fort Snelling and what it means to Minnesota.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Very positive responses on what they saw, learned and partook of at Fort Snelling. They learned how important the fort was to the war and what part Minnesota played in the Civil War. They also learned about the Dakota Indian War. They learned life was hard for the soldiers and their families.

Source of Additional Funds

The radio stations all did advertising for the trip and announcements of bus signups. The libraries prepared posters to distribute around.
