Performance of 'Sweet Land The Musical
Author Will Weaver will join participants, who received tickets compliments of the library, in watching the touring company of the historical theatre in St. Paul's performance of 'Sweet Land: The Musical'. He will speak to the group before, and following, the performance, which is based on his short story 'A Gravestone Made of Wheat.'
130 participated
In watching this performance, and in visiting with the author, participants will gain knowledge of the immigrant experience in western Minnesota in the early 1900's. People will have an appreciation of what life was like in this time period for a bachelor (Norwegian) farmer, his mail order (German) bride, and the community.
Evaluations returned rated this program as 'Great' or 'Good' . Participants expressed appreciation for short stories; the transition of the story to movie to musical; the authors congeniality and knowledge. People in the audience were crying, laughing, and groaning in empathy with what the characters were experiencing on stage. Several evaluations expressed how 'Sweet Land' teaches tolerance!
