Minnesota Railroads: A photographic history and train ride
Attendees to this multi-faceted event will come away with new knowledge of the history of railroads and trains in Minnesota. We all see the trains passing by while we wait at RR crossings, we hear the lowly sound of the train whistle. Now we can learn the trains' history and how they came to be in Minnesota and what benefits they brought residents, both in the past, and continue to do today.
Everyone enjoyed hearing from the author regarding the history of railroads in Minnesota. Also enjoyed was the boson's tour of the museum and the roundhouse, along with the outer buildings on the grounds of the Jackson Street Roundhouse. Attendees came away with new knowledge of the history of railroads and trains and their purposes in MN - how trains were built, how they are being restores, and how they are being used today - and that they are being used more today and are more profitable than ever before in history. Anecdotal responses included: 'I liked the connection of history to the present stories and future possibilities and projects.' 'I felt appreciation of the enormity of railroad cars and the workers that maintain this important part of U.S. commerce.' It is a fun experience to get on a bus with people you normally would not travel with. We had not been on a train prior to this so it was a new experience.'
