Project Overview
Best-selling Minnesota author Douglas Wood presented two programs. Earth Songs and Earth Stories includes songs, stories, laughter, and learning to "take children on a journey of discovery about themselves and the natural world of which they are apart." Mr. Wood uses materials drawn from his 30 published books as well as music from his five CDs to create a personal and unique experience for his audience. His Power of Words workshop explores three vital components of writing: how to make a scene or situation come to life (magic); how to show its deeper implications (meaning); and how to make a symbolic connection to the reader's life and to common human experience - maybe even to inspire.

Earth Songs and Earth Stories--The people who attended this program really enjoyed Mr. Woods' singing and reading of his books. They felt that having a chance to interact with an author was part of what made the experience enjoyable. Many of the people who attended the event also felt they learned good information on the process of making a book including the steps you take between publishers, authors, and illustrators. One of the attendees included this comment in their evaluation: "Great bonding time with kids." Power of Words--In evaluating this program the attendee really appreciated Mr. Woods' openness and how he was willing to explain the process of writing books.
