Project Overview

Camp Read-A-Lot is a conference full of fun and education for teachers, media specialists, homeschool educators and public library staff. Camp Read focuses on literacy and literature for today’s young people and is designed to help educators and librarians enhance student reading experiences. Camp Read is a multi-regional partnership between PCLS and PLS, with PLS acting as the fiscal agent for this event. Costs of bringing in speakers for this two day conference is shared between PCLS and PLS. The amount shown here is PLS's share of speaker costs.

August 2nd - Author Laura Purdie Salas, keynote speaker/afternoon activity session: 27 Campers rated morning keynote as exceeding expectations, 16 as meeting expectations. 25 rated her afternoon work/activity session as exceeding expectations, 15 as meeting expectations. Numerous favorable comments on the many poetry programming ideas presented & how the 'hands-on' afternoon activities provided opportunity to bring ideas back to the classroom/library. August 3rd - Author Lauren Stringer, keynote/afternoon activity session: 24 rated morning keynote as exceeding expectations, 16 as meeting expectations. 22 rated afternoon work/activity session as exceeding expectation, 16 as meeting. Many campers commented on how much they learned about the process of creating a picture book.
