One County Read - Allen Eskens
The Redwood County libraries, Lamberton, Morgan, Redwood Falls and Wabasso, will cooperate to present a county-wide read featuring the book, 'The Life We Bury' by Allen Eskens. Eskens will appear at each library to speak about his journey becoming a writer and how his fictional work was partially influenced by his real life work as a lawyer.

Participants will have a look into fictional writing, where ideas for stories come from and why the author chooses to write a crime novel. Anecdotal responses will be collected.
Participants followed Allen Esken's story starting from his childhood that led him to become an author of crime. He spoke of how he was a creative child who was always daydreaming and later became a lawyer. Eventually he became the author that he is today. Participants learned that characters have been inspired by numerous cases that Eskens has worked on in the past and how his work as a lawyer paved the way for him to create characters that demanded attention instantly. 35 copies of the book were distributed to library patrons to read prior to the program. Twelve copies of the book were reserved to form a book club kit that will be available to all patrons of the library system.
