Popular author Candace Simar presents a reading of her work about Scandinavian immigrants in frontier Minnesota during the 1862 Dakota Conflict. She also speaks about her writing and historical research and discusses her award winning series 'Abercrombie Trail'.

Participants will learn about Simar's background and writing process. They will learn about the immigrant experience and life in 19th century Minnesota as well as about the Dakota Conflict of 1862. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.

Measurable Outcome(s)

There were many positive verbal and written responses about the program with several stopping by the library following the program to thank us for the program. The audience members gained valuable insights into the Scandinavian culture during the turn of the century in Minnesota.
