My Life in Nam - Royal Hettling
Royal Hettling and his brothers were in the 483rd Security Police Squadron's K-9 unit in Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam, 1970-71. He wrote the book, 'Ten: Five Five' which chronicles the stories of a Midwestern boy and fellow dog handlers in the Vietnam War. Ten: five five is the radio code for canine alert indicating the presence of a threat.

Participants will learn history, the history of the Vietnam War, personal accounts of how battles occurred and how people on both sides were treated. Royal Hettling will also share his experiences of being a veteran and how he was treated and felt returning from war. Anecdotal responses will be collected.
Participants learned about the Vietnam War, personal accounts of battles and how the soldiers felt about the war. The presentation got emotional at times as stories were shared about other wars including the Iraq War and WWII and the treatment of veterans when they returned home.
