Neither Wolf Nor Dog - Kent Nerburn
The library's cross-cultural book club recently read this book to get conversations about unity, diversity, community and collaboration between the Native American and the Redwood Falls communities. The author will speak at a community-wide event where students and staff members of the Indian Education school, book club and other interested individuals will attend. In addition the movie, Neither Wolf Nor Dog will be shown at this event, to be held at the Lower Sioux Rec Center.

Attendees will gain a better understanding of their role in changing the relationships between the Native American people and the White people in our community. They will gain an understanding of the Native American history and why they have some resentment toward the ways they have been treated in the past. We hope to shift beliefs, attitudes and feelings of both groups to make the community a better place. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
This event was powerful and some attendees got very emotional when talking about the impact of reading the and discussing the book and watching the movie. This event led both groups to have a better understanding of the true history of the Native Americans at the hands of the white ancestors, and has led to conversations that will help on the road to making the community a more united one.
