Getting Started Writing Fiction - James Zarzana
This is a 75-minute PowerPoint presentation covering five practical steps in fiction writing and aimed at beginning to advanced fiction writers. It is applicable for writers interested in all genres. also helpful for those working on memoir and historical works and suitable for all ages. Topics include characterization, plot outlining and vocabulary. (A portion of this program paid with 2016 funds.)

Those attending will gain a deeper knowledge of the writing process and will take away concrete ideas for developing characters, plots and styles. Participant survey and anecdotal responses will be collected.
Knowledge gained: using first and third person narrative, active and passive voice, character development, ideas for books to read, believing in yourself as a writer. Confidence was given that even when busy, one can still find time to write. The importance of revision, using a dictionary, staying focused, not giving up and information about hybrid styles was emphasized. The library was delighted with the strong attendance for this workshop.
