Project Overview
Bill Jamerson presented original songs and stories about the Civilian Conservation Corps and their lives in a typical camp. Mr. Jamerson has written about life in the CCC camps and has produced numerous PBS films on Michigan history in the 1930s and 1940s. His presentation focuses on the CCC, a federal program created by President Franklin Roosevelt during the Great Depression. Because of the subject matter and target audience, Mr. Jamerson's performance will take place at the Summit Center, Mankato's senior citizen center. This location is ideal for senior citizen participation and will bring back memories of that era to many audience members.

Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

The audience will be entertained and be able to relive a bygone era that many in the audience experienced firsthand. The audience will learn of a time in America that has similar challenges that we currently face if not much worse. The audience will be asked at the end of the presentation about their impressions of the program and if it accurately depicts the experiences of those who lived in that time period.

Measurable Outcome(s)

43 people attended. Participants enjoyed the stories and songs from a bygone era. Many in the audience were very familiar with the CCC and either knew someone who had worked in the corps or were involved themselves. Because of the subject matter and the location, the audience, mainly older citizens enjoyed the relevance of the presentation.
