Project Overview
Dale Blanshan presented "A Charles Dickens Christmas." He provided a biography of Charles Dickens, beginning with his early childhood and the way it shaped his later writings, his development as an author and lecturer, his visits to and impressions of America, and reviewed some of the Christmas customs prevalent in Victorian England. Then the program switched to Dickens' great work, "A Christmas Carol." Using illustrations from his initial illustrator, John Leech, and a later illustrator, Arthur Rackham, he told the story of "A Christmas Carol," and finished with a recitation of "The Cratchits' Christmas." Prior to the program, a local quartet of carolers who dress in Victorian costumes performed traditional Christmas classics for the audience.
