Project Overview
This program taught teens survival skills as well as help them develop their theatrical skills. Teens learned how to strategically react in a time of crisis (in this case, a zombie attack) by playing a zombie survival game. A library staff member asked questions, such as “If you are in a major city, should you get in your car and flee?” All answers were taken from a variety of zombie survival books. Graduate students from the Minnesota State University, Mankato theater/dance department applied professional theatrical zombie make-up and taught the kids how to perform part of the Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance. We videotaped the dance and put it up on our Facebook page. We also held a zombie runway competition where teens performed their best zombie impression (practice in case they need to blend in with real zombies). Mall of America Nickelodeon passes were donated by the Library and by one of the graduate students who works at the Mall of America. We also provided ghoulish board games for teens to play while waiting for other teens to finish their zombie wounds.
