Project Overview
This community-based interactive learning festival offered 21 free classses and demonstrations held in various areas in the Library and parking lot. This festival was based on Louisville Free Public Library's How-to Festival. The festival allowed people to quickly develop skills they would normally not seek out, sample new ideas, and enhance community spirit. The classes taught were: How to perform two magic tricks; identify invasive species; teach your kids smart money habits; perform two card tricks; use educational apps with kids; identify local trees; make Lego animals; julienne vegetables & other chef techniques; be a roller derby girl; download to a Nook, Kindle or iPad; geocache; make origami paper cranes; use a panini maker; make a scarf out of a t-shirt; draw a dragon; make your own baby food; train your dog to do tricks; plan and run good meetings; play two guitar chords; and teach your kids early literacy skills.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Surveys were distributed and the results showed that a majority enjoyed the festival, learned new skills, and felt a sense of community pride after learning skills from people from their community. The festival ran very smoothly with volunteers switching up seating arrangements, cleaning up, signing people in and keeping things running on time. People liked that they could pick and choose what sessions they wanted to attend. Approximately 60 people attended.
