Project Overview
Entertainer and recording artist Sonny Bryant taught basic drum skills to children 5-17 years old. A former member of The Platters, a 60s rhythm and blues vocal group, Mr. Bryant now operates the Mankato Drum Center. He has provided drum lessons all over the country. He brought African drums for hands-on learning and playing with emphasis on music, rhythm and the cultural significance of the instruments.

Participants will have a hands-on experience playing African drums while learning about native music, culture and the influence they have had on contemporary music.

Measurable Outcome(s)

There were 62 participants. Attendees were provided a hands-on opportunity to play a variety of African drums while learning about native music, rhythm, culture and its influence in contemporary music. All who attended were delighted with this unique opportunity and found the experience to be educational and entertaining.
