Project Overview
Based on the popular TV show, teens competed in teams to produce tasty foods. Judges Marie Rete (a cooking and baking teacher) and Teri Malakowky (competitive cooking show fan) determined which team was the winner and received bragging rights. This year we used new theme challenges (paninis and gourmet street food) which required new techniques. The teens' quick fire challenge was a relay race where the teens had to compete as teams to peel an orange, peel a banana and cut into pieces, zest a lemon, and peel a carrot. Teams then chose two recipes each to make for the judges (the relay race determined picking order). Teams made paninis, salads, shrimp, pancakes and eggplant dishes.

Measurable Outcome(s)
20 teens participated. This program has wide appeal. While the teens cooked, tweens ran pantry raids and cleaned up and adults and two infants watched. Overall, the surveys reflected that the teens enjoyed cooking, learned something new about a cooking technique and recipe, and would probably check out cookbooks from the library.
