Project Overview
Our Holiday Open House is an annual celebration inviting people to visit our library and to show appreciation to our patrons for supporting the library all year. For two hours, Kendallville Farms had two live reindeer here for people to interact with and learn about. The handlers discussed many different facts about reindeer such as where they come from, what they eat, and what it's like to raise them. They also answered questions from people and had fact sheets for people to take and read. The reindeer were not penned up so people could get up close and touch them. Many people also enjoyed taking pictures with them. Children and adults were able to make a holiday-themed craft to take home. A volunteer storyteller conducted a holiday-themed storytime session for children. In the evening, a family holiday movie was shown.

There were about 165 people at the event. Of all the people surveyed, all commented that they had learned something new about reindeer. Many commented on how exciting and educational the event was and really enjoyed seeing live animals. Most had questions for the reindeer handlers and were happy to get answers from them. Many new faces attended the event. Several made comments that they had never been to the library and didn't know how nice it was and they planned to come back.
