“Digging into the Unexplained” with Chad Lewis
A majority of respondents were expected to: learn something about paranormal research, learn at least one new fact about an unexplained creature, be interested in checking out nonfiction materials about unexplained topics, be encouraged to participate in the 2013 Summer Reading Program, want to tell a friend or family member about the library and its programs.
The surveys reflect that the majority of patrons enjoyed the program, and many learned something new about paranormal research and unexplained creatures. As one patron commented, he/she did not realize how many reports of hauntings occur in Minnesota. The majority of patrons attending this program were adults, so this program did not overwhelmingly encourage children and teens to sign up for the summer reading programs. However, Lewis’ program did get audience members interested in checking out materials on the unexplained as well as encouraged patrons to attend future library programs and recommend library programs to family members and friends. This librarian observed that Lewis’ focus on ghosts and other unexplained sightings in Minnesota easily captured the audience’s attention. People attentively listened to Lewis and were drawn in by his stories. Perhaps this was best observed when Lewis, and almost everyone else in the room, jumped when they heard an unexpected knock on a door. Lewis’ presentation created a rapt audience, who would have easily sat for another hour-long program. 39 people attended.
