Project Overview
In the third year of a common read program, Minnesota State Mankato's Learning communities and Honors programs have chosen Craig Mullaney's The Unforgiving Minute as the common read for the 2012-2013 academic year. All learning community and Honors students were asked to read The Unforgiving Minute before the start of 2012-2013 classes in August. First year seminar instructors were also invited to use the book in their classes. New Student and Family Programs staff members worked the Blue Earth County and North Mankato Taylor libraries and several other organizations to invite community participation. The specific project for which the grant funding was used were book discussions that took place at libraries around Mankato. With these discussions, we hoped to bring together students, faculty and staff of MSUM with community members and business leaders to discuss the book. These discussions also provide an opportunity for community members to come together to read this book and think about how it connects to their lives.
