Sculpture and Workshop - Nicholas Legeros
Nicholas Legeros is a Minnesotan bronze sculptor. He designed and created a unique and community specific bench made of local Jasper stone and bronze. The artwork incorporated in the bench depict areas of our local community, and show the library and reading as a central part of our community by depicting long-time Edgerton librarian, Elberta DeJaeger, reading to children from the community. There is also a stack of bronze books in front of the bench. The local community did not have a lot of works of art in it before this sculpture.

Expected outcomes are for participants who attend our presentation by Nicholas to learn more about, and become more interested in, the art form of sculpture. We also expect the placement of the sculpture to increase interest in the library for a segment of the population that is not as familiar with libraries and what they have to offer communities. We expect the sculpture to be a permanent fixture in front of the library for the life of the building. We expect it to be there for many, many generations to enjoy a beautiful work of art that is not often seen in communities of our size.Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
Outcomes from the workshop included children showing an interest in learning more about bronze sculpting and adults appreciating learning more about how it is done.We have had approximately 75 members of our small community express their appreciation and give positive feedback on the bench. These people have expressed their appreciation of having a beautiful piece of art for the community to enjoy.
