Candace Simar - Author
Minnesota author, Candace Simar will lead a session on writing: both the process and outcome of it. She will share her experiences with publishing her own books to those in our community who have an interest in either reading Minnesota stories or writing their own.

Individuals will learn about the writing and publishing process, including ideas on how to jump start creativity for works of fiction. Students will have the opportunity to learn from and ask questions of a published author. This will help in their own writing projects--whether personal or educational. Finally, people will see the library as a place that offers educational and interactive programming in a way that is relevant to them. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
Participants learned about the writing and publishing process, as well as how to turn real events into fiction. We had several budding writers in our audience who were able to discuss one on one with Candace regarding their own writing projects. Several of them had attended her presentations at other libraries and returned to glean more information from her. We also had audience members from communities surrounding us join us at our library for the first time, thus seeing what we have to offer in terms of programming, materials and services.
Here's what our patrons had to say: "Candace is engaging and informative. Wonderful!" "There are interesting things everywhere. You just have to find them." "I was intrigued to learn about Fort Abercrombie. Until now, I never knew it existed. Very cool. Also, I had no idea how difficult it was to get published." "It was worth taking time to attend and gives enlightenment into an author's way of thinking." "I learned ideas on finding a publisher." "There was a strong emphasis on the importance on research. I became aware of how difficult the writing journey really is." "Very good. Very historical. I love history, and learning about places I didn't know that are right in our backyard is so fascinating."
