Introduction to Macram?- Jen Anfinson
Macram?is an ancient fiber art that is making a comeback. In this class, participants, using macram? cord, and learning a variety of different knots, will create their own personalized wall hanging. This class is open to participants 12 and up.

Participants will gain the necessary skills to complete a macram? wall hanging. Participants will learn which fibers to use, knots that are common for macrame, and how to read macram? patterns. Many of our younger participants will have grandparents that learned how to macram? when they were tweens and teens in the 1970's. I am hoping that we will have a few grandparent/grandchild combinations attending and that they will enjoy learning/sharing a new skill together. Participants will see the library as a place to learn new skills and have fun together as a community. Participant evaluations and anecdotal responses will be collected.
Jen began with a brief introduction to macrame, a short history of the craft, fibers used in macrame, and projects she has made with macrame. Jen step by step when over the various knots the participants would use to create a small wall hanging: how to begin, where to begin the knots, and how to finish the project. Participants commented how patient Jen was in teaching the class. It was a small class, which allowed for plenty of one on one by Jen, so the participants could master the knots. This group really enjoyed this class--I could hear them chatting and laughing as they worked on the project, and really enjoying what they were learning. It was a really shared experience for the participants, as each project, because it was handmade, looked a little different.
